5 lovely ladies take 5 finutes with us at Winnie B. Kate, Jasmine, Dawn, Claire and Bridget are the brains behind the We Heart Vintage market being held at The Velvet Lounge in Mount Lawley. Their first market date is Saturday 24th April 11am – 5pm. Entry is $2. For more info head to their facebook page.
What inspires you to get out of bed in the morning?
K: Coffee and the realization that only in my dreams am I able to travel back in time to London, Hawaii and California to the 1960’s to pull stuff off the shop. I actually have to get out and find it!
J: Strong tea and the promise of more bed later.
D: Breakfast!
C: Food.
B: Life, fashion, friends and family.
Where is your favourite place to shop for vintage in Perth?
K: The outer suburbs of Perth. Not sure why but it’s the best source for beautiful vintage that’s been carefully kept in the wardrobe by their original owners for decades.
J: Any vintage clothing I purchase for my own wardrobe (that I haven’t
sourced myself) I usually buy from the other four Collectomaniacs!
Sometimes I have to ban myself from looking through their stalls to
avoid financial starvation!
D: It will be the WE HEART VINTAGE market!
C: My mum’s house!
B: I do most of my vintage hunting in Op shops across Perth and Mandurah, but I love to pick up a bargain at the Sugar Blue Burlesque Retro Market in Northbridge.
What is your favourite vintage piece?
K: My bright red 60’s MOD vinyl cape!
J: One piece in my collection that gives me shivers is a late Victorian
(circa 1890) guipere lace jacket. It’s too precious to wear out,
though i occassionaly swan around the house in it feeling domestically
elegant.
D: A 1930’s black dress that I have never worn.
C: Roberto Cavalli bag!
B: It’s hard to pick a favourite, but right now I would have to say my 1980’s Ray Costarello purple party frock. It’s almost like a fitted coat in shape, and it has a real swing to the skirt!
How and why did you start We Heart Vintage?
K: Because we are all obsessed with vintage and we needed a regular venue to share our passion.
J: I was selling vintage clothing at the Oxford st market when I became
aquainted with a few other vintage clothing sellers. After some
excited chit chats we felt it was our collecive duty to start our own
market. Hence, We Heart Vintage was born.
D: As a collective we wanted a fun place to sell affordable vintage clothing and accessories.
C: I’ve been collecting for years and I managed to stumble across some like minded people with the same collecting illness.
B: Hours of brainstorming with like minded vintage lovers at various markets across town. We felt there was a niche for a vintage market, and Mt Lawley is the perfect venue for such a venture!
Five words to describe yourself?
K: Eclectic, colourful, creative, obsessed and fair.
J: Animated, thrifty, batty, emotionally colourful.
D: Innovative, stylish, friendly, individual and passionate (about collecting).
C: Creative, sporty, genuine (stumped for the other two).
B: Loyal, quirky, determined, fun and frivolous.
